'Just curious, can the typical G10 plastic frames be painted? If so what kind of paint / surface preparation would be required?

Isn't g10 fiber glass?
I believe the same kinds of paint used to paint canopies should work.

Here is a link that may give you some insight to the material. I would clearcoat the frames afterwards to make sure the nitro wouldn't create a mess. I would also remove any glaze from the surface to where the paint could stick to.

I would think you could use RIT dye to dye the frame parts, couldnt you? then you could clear over that.

Most G10 frames are black (and yes, it's fiberglass). RIT dye won't cover dark colors. It might give you a slight tint if you were working with 'blonde' fiberglass, but not much.
