Default Southern Rotary Classic, Sept. 17-19, 2010, Mt. Pleasant, TX

Terry Dawson asked me to go ahead and post this for him [with editorial comments added by me]:

The Southern Rotary Classic will continue this year just like it always has, but at a new location. It will be about two and half miles further from Mt. Pleasant then it has been, but we are very excited about the new site. If offers some possibilities that we didn't have at the other site. [Such as real bathrooms, not Porta-Potties!]

This year's event will be held on September 17, 18, and 19. So everyone mark your calendars because this will be our 24th year for this event and we have some really great ideas again this year.

We again plan on having the same great contests and events we have had in the past and, of course, some top notch pilots from all over the country and perhaps the world as well.

Last year there was some great night flying and this year we have something even better planned. More details coming up soon.

Here is the location information, thanks to Weldon Freeman on RR:

The event will be held in Broach Park in Pittsburg, TX. The street address is 996 County Road 2106. The GPS coordinates are N33.012406, W94.971657. Here's a link to the Google map:

Google has updated their aerial photos, so you can see the layout of the park now when you go to the above link. The flying area will be the big area to the north of the softball diamonds and tennis court.

What? No more exotic vacation trips?

I should have my new toy (flybarless Atom 6HV) by then.

Not unless you consider a road trip to Chicago with the inlaws "exotic vacation"

I look forward to seeing a FBL 6HV! I saw one over on HF that's under 7 lbs AUW. Holy moly, that's gotta be insane.

Not having seen your inlaws, I can't comment.

That's about 1/2 pound heavier than my Logo 500 with 550mm blades, so I can imagine. I had heard the 6HV is lighter than a Logo 600.

Jason may have his 6HV converted to FBL by then. He was talking about it at Tyler.

Talking Southern Rotary Classic

Hello Everyone

I wanted to update everyone here on this forum as well about how excited I am on this years Southern Rotary Classic event.

Of course I am pretty excited every about the event. We have a new location just a few miles south of the past sites.

We expect over hundred pilots as well have had in the past years which makes it one of the biggest events in all of the southwest.

We have a number of sponsors I am lining up for the event as well and we have a few more new things we are working on, I am keeping under my sleeve.

The Southern Rotary Classic will be held on September 17th, 18th and 19th just north of Pittsburg Texas which is about 9 miles south of Mt. Pleasant Texas.

Chris I certainly hope you are able to make it, check out my email to insideheli and see what you think? And yes, you can still call this an exotic vacation.

Terry

KW Morris and I are going to head up there Friday morning. Should be there around noon. If anyone is interested, we can set our canopies up together so we're not moving our stuff around all day trying to stay in the shade. We will bring one or two so if someone doesn't have one, we can share.

I've got an EZ-Up too, so we can just put them all together. I know The Bum invited me to join up with him and another Compass guy, maybe all the oddballs can hang together.

I'm going over Thursday night from work. I work in Greenville, so it doesn't make much sense to drive all the way back to McKinney Thursday night and then back to Mt. Pleasant/Pittsburg Friday morning. I think Jason was planning to go up Thursday night too and stay on-site, so I plan to set up my canopy and BS with him for a while before heading to the motel. I'll try to make sure that we arrange things such that you two have room to put your canopies.

When are you going up, Chris?

To save a few bucks, we've decided to drive up early Friday morning rather than stay Thursday night. So it will likely be 10-11am Friday before we arrive at the field.

Default Response to Terri who saw messages on allmyrc

I wanted to post some more information on this forum because everyone does not get around to seeing information on the other forums such as runryder and helifreak. I got an email from someone name Terri but was not able to answer their email because of a nonreturnable email address (not sure why) However since they saw the event on allmyrc I going to post some more info for everyone to see.

The event is south of Mt. Pleasant at Pittsburg Texas on September 17th, 18th and 19th with Saturday of course being the big day.

Novice pilots are welcome, you get to enter the novice contest as well as fly for 3 days and you get one free ticket for the pilot raffle. The registered pilots also will have a hotdog supper Saturday night. But even if you are not planning on registering, by all means come to the event and enjoy it.

Also, if you have a generator and/or pop-up shelter, bring them.
