Default Rave flybarless

Hi Nick,

On your flybarless Rave, I noticed you have the round servo horns. Are you doing this so the geometry comes out better or is there another reason?

Thanks

Kenny,
That was an effort by another Rave pilot to help resolution, torque, and to reduce gear slop, and it definatly made an improvement!

I'd really like to try this on a flybarred one also to see if it helps!

Cool,

Is there a spec on the measurement for the ball or was the goal to be 90 degrees?

Will get those measurements and let you know...

Beleive the goal was to get the nessicary travel out of the blades, while using the maximum travels on the servos.

Thanks,
Nick

Kenny,
The distance from the center of the servo spline to the center of the ball is 10.6mm.

Thanks,
Nick

My Rave FBL is now converted over using round horns.

First thing I had to do is pretty much start over, 0 subtrims on the TX and Vbar software, recalibrate tx to vbar
Reset all neutrals for zero pitch, adjusted link rods & vbar software ect..
Increase collective for minimum & maximum travel

I ended up with 12 degrees of +/- pitch, no interaction.

Flight testing should come no later then Saturday.

Hi Nick,

I wanted to give you an update with round horns.

First, it does fly different from the std horns. I can't say I really like it, it seems to now have an undesirable snappy feeling when I flip or roll. I am not sure if this is the way I have the Vbar programed or the change in the horns and it may very well be a combination of both. It may turn out that I just need to get use to the way it flys so I am going to continue to play around with the setup or program.

Oh, one other thing I wanted to mention. On my non FBL Rave, I switch over to the round horns. I really like the way this one felt. I am still playing around with the setup but so far it has been positive.

Hmmmmm. Ok thats good info.

I havn't noticed the snappyness feeling. I'm wondering what causes that. Thats, somewhat, what the round horns should prevent.

As for on the flybarred model, thats great news. I have yet to try the round horns on the flybarred, but plan to now.

Hey Nick, I found out what was going on with my Rave. It turns out that the problem I was having had nothing to do with round horns. Turns out it was the gyro gain was to high. I still have a bit of tweaking to do but I am really happy with how my Rave is flying now. So the round horns have redeemed themselves

Glad to hear its working good now. I still need to try the round horns on the flybarred heli. I'll report back after some flying!
