Default GY520 gyro on the N9

Hi Matt
Thanks for taking the time to review and answer the questions we all have here.
I got a used N9 late last fall. Came with a YS.91SR. So I throw my electronics in it, along with a newly purchased GY520 gyro w/BLS251 servo. Tonight I finaly got the time to go out into the garage and test run the engine. Being a used machine and all, I have been really wanting to see if everything works as advertised. Honestly i have been a big fan of the CY Solid G. With this being my 1st Futaba gyro (got it for a killer deal). I noticed when the heli is sitting at a idle, the LED on the gyro flickers from red to blue quite rapidly. So i put my finger on the gyro and can feel a small amount of vibration. I installed the gyro per the manual with the metal plate and the 2 two sided tape. Is this the best way to install this gyro onto this machine?

Although I did not plan on flying the heli tonight. I ended up doing a test hover in the driveway. The tail was rock solid!!! I bet I can still turn the gain up. It had no wag, and quick left, right yaw inputs proved to be quick and responsive with hard stops and no bounce back. This test hover was only about 3 minutes long. So my questions are:

Installed correctly with the tape and plate?
I read you use the GY520. What is your tail setup?
Will the small vibes go away and make my gyro LED quit flickering after I get the engine tuned properly?

Thanks
Joe

I've notice the same thing on with my Gy520 both on my N9 and my T-Rex 500, it stops flashing in flight and work flawlessly.

Thanks for the reply. I figured as much. I was worried that there was to much vibration there. I guess I would have never thought twice about it if there was no LED telling me that there was some input going on. Cant wait to fly this machine. Snow in the forcast all week long.

Default Flickering

The flickering is the 520s way of telling you that it is not centered. If you move the rudder stick off center, the LED will flash violet until the stick is re-centered. When the motor runs and there is vibration, the gyro is fighting hard to stay centered and will flicker. My electric model doesn't do that but the nitro models do.

Thanks Gordie! I've been slacking on my forum replies. Gordie hit the nail on the head, my N9 does the same thing. The Gy520 is an amazing gyro! I have one on everything from my little Rave 450 to the N9. It works like a champ on everything. On nitro machines you can mess with the amount of double sided take you place below the gyro along with using or not using the metal plate. I've found that my nitro machines need a little more cushion.

Hope that helps!
