Alright all I am not real familiar with all the good foamie brands. I have an Ikarus Nemesis and a Great Planes Yak 54. I was looking at Fancy Foam and a few others I have found but was really looking for some honest opinions, biased or otherwise. I am currently running the E-Flite Park 250 and I am pretty happy with it so far. OK. Time to stir the pot.
Phil

Any of the Fancy Foam models fly great. Some of the newer designs, Osiris, Seminoll, Blender, Yak 55m would all fly great on the 250 with a smaller 2s battery.
The electronics set-up in those models would be similar also, so if you decide to try other airframes the electronics won't hold you back. Nick |

Those were the Andrew Jesky Osiris, and Yak 55m, both from Fancy Foam.
While they were borrowed models, I'm 99% sure they both had Futaba 3114 servos, the smallest Hacker speed controllers, Hacker A10 12s's, and ThunderPower 2s 250mah. They both flew great... really light and floaty. While I got my butt kicked, both Seth Arnold and Ryan Clark on here did great. Seth won the event, and Ryan was right up there. I beleive they both flew similar set-ups with slight variations in possibly servo brands, etc., and the exception of variable pitch on Seths 3D model. Nick |

Thanks Nick. The Andrew Jesky Osiris, and Yak 55m are exactly what I was going to pick up. What kind of flight times can I expect with 2s 250's? At least 4 minutes would be fine.

I would say 4 minutes is no problem. Think its usually around 4:30-5:30 depending on if you are indoors/outdoors, temps, etc.
The little batterys are fairly strong when it comes to being abused and recovering, but are affected a little bit more by colder temps. Nick |

It all depends what you want to do.
in 2009 ETOC i flew the Fancy Foam Osiris for pattern and the prototype MX-2 from Fancy Foam. Rj Gritter (the deisgner) and Seth Arnold also flew the prototype MX-2's. The MX-2 was just released last week. You can go to fancyfoam.com for more info. Here is a vid of my demo at KIEF indoor fest, its the production "printed" Fancy Foam MX-2. I really like it. For a 3d freestyle plane it works really well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFywO11Y-Gc Jamie Hicks |

Hi Don, I definately love flying it! There's nothing quite like it. It is its own "animal". My MX-2's run Hacker A10-9L Thunder Power 320mah 2cell eflite s60 and Futaba 3114 servos (varies on which foamy kinda mixed up) GWS 8x4.3 prop Then I also have a variable pitch setup thats the same stuff except with Hacker A20-34s Mamo Variable Pitch system. Hope this helps. Jamie Hicks

Hi Jamie,
I just ordered a MX-2 and would like to ask a couple of questions if you don't mind. Which CA do you like best on these Foamys? 1) How do you apply the CA and accelerator (any special tips or applicators)? 2) Any hints or tricks in building a lightweight model? 3) What do you use to properly align the parts to be glued? Thanks for your help.... Don C

Hi Don, Great to hear you bought an MX-2. As of glue I either use ZAP foam safe CA or the bobsmith thin CA. I really like the Mercury Kicker, or the bobsmith kicker. The trick to building light is light equipment, and the less glue the better. You have no idea how much glue ads to the plane. If someone was going to be heavy its mostly cause of the amount of glue. Make sure you have a straight edge, ruler or something. When you lay the horizontal pieces and wing together to glue take the staightedge and align the hole inserts down the fuse on the same line before you glue. This will insure the straightness of the verticle fuse. Other than that, follow the directions, and enjoy the build. ![]() Jamie Hicks

The MX-2 is almost finished! Waiting for the servos to come in (today, I hope) so I can install the aileron servo, then glue the top half of the fuselage on followed by the rudder. Then it will be down to only installing the motor and electronics.
Now, I just need to find an indoor location to fly! Don C

I maidened the MX-2 today - outdoors - four flights! Sweet.... Now I need to get in some serious practice. It came in at 5 1/4 oz. including the Lipo. Pretty floaty in the 5-10 mph wind today and it landed in what I'd call a horizontal hover, without any movement at all when it touched the ground.
And it's easy to hover, only needed to lean into the wind a bit. Now, I have got to find an indoor flying site.... Don C

I've been lucky enough to find a couple of calm days outdoors and was able to get another 12 flights in on the MX-2. It's simply a ball to fly. I'm getting quite spoiled outdoors with this little foamy but I need to get some practice indoors, though.

Well, after over 40 flights on the MX-2 (outside) I finally managed to crack up the wheel pants. Not too bad, though, and a little CA has got them back together.
Because landing on rough surfaces can be pretty rough on the lightweight LG, I finally broke down and installed wheels, UGG.... Maybe now I can get many more flights in (outside) before having to repair the wheel pants again. Don C
